On Monday morning, a nine-year-old kid was murdered by a stray bullet in Awutu Beraku, the capital of the Awutu Senya West District in the Central Region.

The deceased, who was hit in the head, was wheeling his crippled brother in a wheelchair through a huge procession as part of the chiefs and people of the region performing some traditional rites and rituals to mark their annual celebration.

The chiefs opted not to celebrate the celebration due to the advent of the COVID-19 epidemic, which resulted in a ban on public gatherings. Instead, they performed certain customary ceremonies to commemorate the anniversary.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the men following the chiefs lost control of the pistol as he attempted to load it, and it went off, striking the nine-year-old child and two other people who are in severe condition. 

The body of the youngster, who died instantaneously, was put in the morgue of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, while others who suffered critical injuries are being treated there as well.

The culprit has already been detained, according to Chief Superintendent Joshua Semanyo of the Awutu Beraku District Police Commander's office.
